Jacob Nevill: "Mary's Gift" performed by Jacob Nevill, saxophone Tammy Lum, piano

PROGRAM NOTES

“Mary's Gift,” was written as a gift to God in thanks for all that He had done for Jacob. The composition is for Saxophone and Piano. It illustrates the story from Mark 14, how Mary the prostitute anoints Jesus' feet. The melody tries to convey the heart felt repentance to Jesus and forgiveness given free to her by Christ. The piano adds to create a lush colorful background.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

Jacob Nevill credits his music to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Christ's influence has caused him to look deeper into what music can do: minister, heal, and bless. Jacob is certain that without Jesus, his life would be empty and without purpose. BIO Jacob Nevill is a Composition and Performance Major at Nyack Christian College. Jacob has composed music for both the concert and film setting from. His score for various student films, “Reality Check” and “Corduroy”, show sensitivity to the filmmaker's vision and yet brings about a scene of unity of characters, themes, and moods. He has also written concert pieces for the Tuba ("Tuba Sonata"), Piano ("Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", "Prelude No.1", etc.) and the Saxophone ("Watercolor Suite" piano acc., "Saxophone Suite", "Mary's Gift," etc.).
