Adam Sovkoplas: "Sorrow" performed by Amy Kennedy, flute and Adam Wiggins, piano

PROGRAM NOTES

This emotional and expressive piece depicts a young girl coming home from school after experiencing her first real heartbreak. She goes to her room and begins to weep over her lost love. Her crying becomes sobbing, and her mother, hearing from another room, comes to investigate. The daughter pretends that everything is fine, but after her mother leaves, she begins sobbing uncontrollably. She collapses on her bed, clinging to a picture of her lost love and cries herself to sleep.

STATEMENT OF FAITH BY THE COMPOSER

I find it very difficult to verbalize my faith and not have it sound pompously artificial to my own ears, so please let it suffice to say that I believe in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and acknowledge the profound influence that my faith and beliefs have upon my creativity. I know that my inspiration comes from the Lord and believe that what I create is my gift in return.
